Woman's Club of Powhatan

Over 35 years of service to our community

What We Do

The Club still supports many of the fine projects that were started when it was formed in 1972.  The Club manages the Clothes Closet, which is staffed by club members and volunteers from the community.  It provides clothing and household items to the needy in the community, for a very small cost.  The Clothes Closet is located behind the Social Services building in the village of Powhatan and is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. and on Saturdays from 11 a.m - 2 p.m.  We also accept donations during those hours.

The club promotes literacy issues in the community and we fund three scholarships for two local high schools.

Our annual Arts and Craft show displays members' talents and students' entries from all the local schools.

We respond to the needs of the community, whenever possible, and support the Fire Departments and Rescue Squads.

We help support Madeline's House and the Piedmont Crisis Center by donating clothing, toys, furniture, linens, and other items.  We assemble assault recovery kits for distribution to area hospitals.

Although our main focus is helping the needy in our community, the Club reaches out on National and International levels.  We have a silent auction each year to benefit Operation Smile and we sponsor a child in South America.

Some other charities that we support: American Heart Association, Canine Companions, Childreach, DARE, Powhatan Christmas Mother, Relay for Life, and Wildlife Rehabilitation (ARK).
